Biogas Express
Your supplier of fossil free fuel
Biogas Express is a green Scandinavian fuel company focusing on the sale of high-quality sustainable biogas. Biogas Express is a fusion of Biofuel Express and Biogem which combined has more than 10 years of experience within the conversion from fossil fuels to fossil-free 100% biobased operation. Our leading high-quality products can be refueled directly from our filling stations in Denmark at competitive prices, or can be delivered to your own tanks.
Benefits of biogas
There are several benefits to using biogas as an energy source. The overall benefits can be divided into 3 categories: the societal, environmental and climate benefits and agricultural.
Societal benefits
- Manure and manure constitute is a large untapped biomass resource that can make a significant contribution to future energy consumption.
- Natural gas is a limited resource, which is already being depleted in Denmark. Biogas will be able to partially replace this resource, and can be transported through the large natural gas network that already exists.
- A large biogas production will thus to ensure an improved supply.
- In several studies, biogas production has been found to be the cheapest method of reducing the greenhouse effect.
- Large amounts of organic waste and residues are utilized, and the nutrients are recycled.
- Biogas plants also help to create employment in agriculture, where new jobs are needed in several places.
- Biogas plants makes it possible to produce crops for energy and edible purposes. In the future, one such application is the growing of sustainable grass, which in turn is able almost completely remove nitrate levels from water, thus protecting environmentally sensitive areas in the years to come. Areas with extraction of drinking water. Nitrate leaching from perennial grasslands is almost zero. It can therefore be a tool to protect environmentally sensitive areas.
Environmental and climate benefits
- Biogas production helps to increase the availability of nitrogen for the crops, and this results in better nitrogen utilization.
- The degassed manure results in a smaller evaporation of ammonia from the field after being fertilized.
- Degassing of livestock manure results in a greatly reduced loss of methane gas from the slurry storage tanks. The gas is instead collected at the plant and utilized in energy production. It therefore helps to reduce the load of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, since methane is approx. 20 times more podent than CO2.
- The use of degassed manure as fertilizer instead of raw manure also means that the production of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) in the soil is reduced. This is also important for reducing the climate impact.
- Biogas is also used to produce cogeneration, which displaces fossil fuels such as coal, which are otherwise used for electricity and district heating.
- Biogas used for the transport sector is equally helping to displace fossil alternatives such as ordinary diesel or petrol.
- Biogas production provides the opportunity to utilize meadow grass as a resource and thus keep low-lying areas free of overgrowth and harvest and remove nutrients for more robust areas.
Agricultural benefits
- Degassed manure smells much less than raw manure. It therefore produces fewer odor nuisances compared to the use of livestock manure in the fields.
- The nitrogen utilization from the fertilizer is significantly increased and the fertilizer economy and the yield are improved.
- Biogas plants can function as an efficient plant for the distribution of nutrients. With common facilities, an efficient and cheap redistribution of nutrients is obtained between use with too much fertilizer and use with too little.
- Infectious substances and parasites in livestock manure are eliminated.
- A biogas plant provides the opportunity for profitably producing energy crops for farms.
- Biogas plants also help to create employment in agriculture, where new jobs are needed.
